Waterfall works as well for relationships as it does for projects – which is not very well at all.
After meeting someone new, what runs through your mind? Should I get together with them again? Might anything develop – a friendship or otherwise? How do I really feel about the other person? Do I want to form a deeper connection with this person?
This is all BDUF or Big Design Up Front. You’re trying to plan something out with extremely limited information. You are doing too much up front planning.
None of that matters. You are wasting cycles on analyzing a relationship that might or might not be. Get together. Connect. See what happens. Adopt a more agile approach in your relationships. Make choices at the last responsible moment when you have the most information available.
